Registration for the drawing of the starting spots for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2021 begins
At the moment, it is raining records and best times among the top athletes. For example, Kenenisa Bekele’s old world record in the 10,000 metres was cracked. Joshua Cheptegei broke it with a time of 26:11.00 minutes. Two weeks ago, Melat Kejeta won silver at the half-marathon world championship, spectacularly beating the German record. But what about the amateur athletes and the age group aces? They also want to show what they are made of.
Thousands of athletes worldwide take part in the 2:01:39 Challenge
Even if the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON scheduled for this weekend was not held as planned, Saturday and Sunday in the sports metropolis of Berlin were nevertheless completely dedicated to sports. As part of the #20139 Challenge, athletes from around the world competed to find out how many kilometers they could complete in 2:01:39 hours. This time corresponds to the world record set by Eliud Kipchoge in 2018 at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON.
BMW extends BMW BERLIN-MARATHON title partnership
BMW and SCC EVENTS, organiser of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, have announced the extension of the title partnership, which has been in place since 2011, at Germany's largest marathon. Today, the 42 fastest kilometres on the international running calendar would have been started for the 47th time in total and for the tenth time with BMW as title partner. Despite the cancellation of this year's BMW BERLIN-MARATHON due to the Corona Pandemic, first-class sport will be presented in the capital today.
