FAQ - GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON 2023

Answers to frequently asked questions at a glance

Race Material

  • The race material pick up only takes place at the HALF MARATHON EXPO 2023 at the former Tempelhof Airport, Platz der Luftbrücke 5, 12101 Berlin during the following opening hours:

    Friday, March 31 2023: 11 am - 8 pm
    Saturday, April 1 2023: 9 am - 6.30 pm 


    • your start card (will be send to you by e-mail appr. 10 days before the event and will then also be available in your user account)
    • and a photo document (ID card, driver's license, passport)

  • No, you have to pick up your race material personally.

    The collection of the race material by another person is not possible, not even with a power of attorney! It is also not possible to send you the material.. 
    In the process of the race material pick up we also put on your athletes wristband, which is together with your start number required to be allowed to enter the Start/Finish area. This will ensure that only registered participants take part in the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON.

    Please only remove your athletes wristband after you have left the finish area after your race.


  • The great pre-booked event shirt and other pre-booked items can also be picked up at the HALFMARATHON EXPO. All extras booked by you will be displayed on your race number.


  • Our multilingual medical team from various specialties offers on-site health and emergency consultations and is happy to answer your questions. In case of a health risk our doctors will give you advice and help. If you are advised not to participate in the GENERALI BERLINER HALF MARATHON during a free sports medical examination at the HALF MARATHON EXPO and you agree to make your anonymized data available for sports medical purposes, you will be guaranteed a race entry in the following year's event in exchange for the return of your race number. The participation fee has to be paid again at the registration. You can register in the following year until the registration deadline, even if the event is already sold out.

Event Day

  • There are no designated parking facilities.

    We recommend that you travel by public transport. Your race number is valid as a ticket from 5:00 to 19:00 in the AB area.

    The nearest public transportation stops are:
    Subway: Friedrichstraße or Unter den Linden (U6), Brandenburger Tor or Bundestag (U5), Potsdamer Platz (U2)
    S-Bahn: Hauptbahnhof or Friedrichstraße (S3, S5, S7, S75), Brandenburger Tor oder Friedrichstraße (S1, S2, S25)
    Regionaltrains: Hauptbahnhof

  • The following things should not be missing: your personal bib number, your athletes wristband (was put on you at the HALBMARATHON EXPO) and your chip for the time keeping.
    For skaters, wheelchair users or hand cyclists, helmets are mandatory, further protective clothing is recommended.


  • Clothing can only be dropped off for those participants who have chosen "Clothing drop off" during registration and who have received a transparent bag and label with their bib number at the race material pick. All others will receive a warming poncho at the finish (recognizable by a corresponding symbol on the bib number).


  • Your personal belongings can only be handed in in the GENERALI BERLINER HALF MARATHON transparent clothing bag as far as they are not on the list for prohibited items. Furthermore, no bags, backpacks or other luggage can be taken into the start / finish area. 

    Avoid bringing valuables, we are not liable for losses.
     


  • The letter on your bib number corresponds to the start block (A-G) that is designated for you.

    The allocation is based on your best half marathon time of the last three years or your estimated finish time, which you entered during registration. You can adjust this time in your user account under "My registrations" up to and including March 27 2023 23:59 CET. Please note that for times below 1:39:00 a proof (certificate / link to the result list) is required.
    A change of start block at the EXPO is not possible.


  • To help you with your wished finishing time, pacemakers will spread out visibly in the starting field. They carry pacer flags with the finish time:

    1:25 hours
    1:35 hours
    1:45 hours
    2:00 Stunden
    2:15 Stunden
     


  • No, the start/finish area is only accessible to officially registered participants. To cheer you already on the first and last meters, your relatives can stand directly behind the start in the area designated for visitors. Also so at the finish. 
    Handbikers and wheelchair athletes will receive an additional information by e-mail. 


  • Please attach the chip securely (without metal) to your shoe or skate. Be sure to wear it below your knee, not in your pocket, otherwise your time cannot be measured.
    Participants with wheelchairs or handbikes please use the special bike chip and attach it to the front fork near the axle.


On the course

  • -Any support vehicles (cars, e-scooters, bicycles and motorcycles).
    -Strollers of any kind
    -Roller skates, inline skates, skateboards or other rolling devices are not allowed in the race of the runners

    Please note: The international federation World Athletics prohibits the wearing of headphones during running competitions.


  • There are four refreshment points along the course:

    5 K: water, tea, Maurten Drink Mix
    10.5 K: water, tea
    14.5 K: water, tea, banana und Maurten Gel Zone
    KM 17.5: water, tea, Maurten Drink Mix, banana
     


  • For first aid services at the start / finish area and on the course, the medical team, bicycle doctors, medical aid organizations and patrols of the Berlin Fire Department are there for you. Do not hesitate to contact our staff in case of complaints or pain. This also applies if you notice emergencies among other participants.


  • The time limit is 3:15 hours from crossing the start line. In addition, participants who have not reached K 17.5 (Leipziger Str./Jerusalemer Str.) by 2:11 p.m. must leave the official course and continue running on the sidewalk or will be driven to the finish in the broom bus. Please note that you will not receive a result time.


After the finish line

  • Please return your chip on the day of the event. The chip return points are located at six different positions in the finish area and are open until about 15:00. You can recognize them by flags with a chip symbol.


  • To personalize your medal, there will be an engraving booth in Scheidemannstraße (outside the event area). You are welcome to book this service in advance via your user account. This will be noted accordingly on the start number. The engraving has to be done on the day of the event.
    For a cash payment (!) of 12.00 euros, the service can also be used directly at the stand.


  • Your pre-certificate will be available for you shortly after your finish as a download within the results list. No printed certificates will be handed out on site.


  • Umkleide- und Duschmöglichkeiten sind in ausreichender Anzahl im Zielgebiet vorhanden.


  • In the finish area, tea, water, ERDINGER non-alcoholic and isotonic drinks as well as fruit (apples, bananas) will be available for all finishers. You will also receive a finisher bag with some fruit and goodies to reward you after the race and help you recover.


  • You can arrange to meet your relatives or friends at the family meeting point at Brandenburger Tor/Scheidemannstr. at the sign with the first letter of your last name.


Relatives, friends and interested people

  • The start / finish area is only accessible for officially registered participants. Special instructions for wheelchair users and hand cyclists can be found on our page. The course is also for official participants only. However, you are welcome to cheer on the runners at various points along the route.


  • Tracking is only possible on the day of the event via the results list (under "Your race"). In addition to viewing the live results list and the leaderboard, you can track the run of one or more people there. Just enter the name or the bib number in the search.  If the participant chose tracking by code when registering, this can only be entered after the start.
