Diversity moves us
“When diversity wins, we all win!” — this is the motto of the 14th German Diversity Day on May 19, 2026. At SCC EVENTS, we are equally convinced that diversity is a strength, both in our organization and at our events.
Whether at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON, one of our many smaller events, or along the course itself: people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and abilities come together to enjoy sports and physical activity as a community. Our events stand for openness, respect, and inclusion — and for a community that truly lives diversity.
International diversity at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON
This diversity becomes especially visible at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON: every year, participants from more than 160 nations travel to Berlin. Runners, wheelchair athletes, handcyclists, skaters, and volunteers, together with thousands of spectators, turn the event into an international sports festival.
Since 2021, one particularly visible symbol of openness and diversity has been the rainbow-colored start gate at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON — an image that is shared around the world countless times.
Working together with the BERLINER QUEER-BÜNDNIS for greater visibility
Supporting the BERLINER QUEER-BÜNDNIS is also part of SCC EVENTS’ social values and commitment. SCC EVENTS aims to organize LGBTQIA+ friendly events. Initial adjustments to registration processes, as well as visible changes such as all-gender changing rooms and all-gender restrooms, have already been implemented.
At our EXPO events held as part of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON and the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON, topics such as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion are also actively addressed, including through dedicated information booths. A dedicated queer cheering point along the course not only stands for acceptance and visibility, but also serves as a meeting point and information hub for the community.
These efforts are complemented by awareness teams that promote respectful interaction and are available as points of contact for participants, visitors, and volunteers alike.
Promoting inclusion and participation in sports
For SCC EVENTS, inclusion means making sports accessible to as many people as possible. Para athletes have been an integral part of our events for many years. Together with partners such as Special Olympics Germany and the Fürst Donnersmarck Foundation, SCC EVENTS is also committed to reducing barriers and enabling greater participation in sports.
This includes inclusion runs and other low-threshold initiatives designed to make sports more accessible to people with different abilities and backgrounds, while creating shared experiences of success and achievement.
Participation is also actively considered beyond the racecourse itself: information points for people who rely on sign language, low-barrier services, and inclusive volunteer structures all help ensure that as many people as possible feel welcome and included.
