Running and family: a father-son adventure at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON
A family that runs together
What makes Niels and Milan's connection to running so special is the family aspect. The shared passion connects father and son not only during training, but also at SCC EVENTS events. Milan started with the adidas Runners City Night in 2022 and subsequently took part in several half marathon events, while Niels already immersed himself in the world of longer distances at the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON in 2021. The BMW BERLIN MARATHON and participation in the ‘Run for Children’ charity is set to be THE highlight of their running history together. ‘The SCC EVENTS events are always perfectly organised and the atmosphere is simply great. It's always a motivation to sign up when you feel the great atmosphere there,’ says Niels. Milan also confirms: ‘It's just fun to take part in these events and feel the positive energy from other runners.’

Niels Struckmeyer: From managing director to enthusiastic marathon runner
Niels Struckmeyer, 45, has lived in Berlin for almost 18 years and is the managing director of a digital agency. His running story began during the pandemic. ‘Before that, I only ran on holiday every now and then, but the pandemic really got me into it. Since then, running has become an important part of my life,’ explains Niels.
Running not only gives him physical fitness, but also the mental strength he needs to cope with the demands of his day-to-day work. Two important factors in his ever-growing passion are the ‘Berlin Braves’ and Uta Pippig. Niels has been part of the Berlin running group for about a year now. He finds it particularly inspiring to meet Uta Pippig, who captivates many runners with her ‘Run for Children’ initiative. In addition to running, Niels plays beach volleyball and in winter he enjoys being in the mountains.
Milan Pantel: The young Berliner with a passion for sport
Milan Pantel, who will be 18 this year, was born in Berlin and is currently in year 11 at a grammar school. For him, running is more than just sport - it's a way of testing his limits and challenging himself time and time again. Milan is also a passionate boxer and has been training at the Koryo boxing club in Neukölln for over two years. ‘For me, running is the perfect complement to boxing training. And of course it's also great to spend time with my father,’ says Milan.
For Milan, Berlin is not just a place to live, but also a place of motivation. ‘I was born here and simply feel connected to this city. The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON will be a very special moment for me, especially as my first marathon,’ says Milan.

What's on the agenda for 2025?
Looking ahead to the upcoming challenge, Niels and Milan want to further intensify their training plans. The father and son duo will be competing in the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON. There, too, they will be accompanied by SCC EVENTS. They will be running all year round, including on holiday together. ‘We don't know exactly where we're going yet, but the running shoes are coming with us,’ said Niels. More runs are planned in order to be optimally prepared for the big goal in September. While Milan is more interested in smaller regional races, Niels has his sights set on the Geneva Marathon.
Taking part in the SCC EVENTS events not only gives them the chance to achieve their sporting goals, but also to find a deeper connection to their home city of Berlin. Because one thing is certain for both of them: the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2025 will be a very special experience - for father and son alike.
Ein A special moment: crossing the finish line togetherMoment: Gemeinsam ins Ziel
Niels and Milan's enthusiasm for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON and the race as a shared challenge should lead to their joint participation. It's not just about achieving a certain time, but about the exchange and inspiration they share with each other and with others. ‘For us, running is much more than just sport - it's a journey that we go on together,’ says Niels.
Whether training together or taking part in the city's biggest running events, Niels and Milan show how a passion for running can strengthen families. They are ready to cross the finish line of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON together in 2025.
Stay tuned to see how their journey continues and how they become part of the big running family of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON this year!
