Garmin BERLIN MILE at GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON

The debut impresses during the half marathon weekend

With around 3,000 participants, the Garmin BERLIN MILE at GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON celebrated a successful debut today at the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON. Under bright sunshine, the 1,609-meter course ran from Lustgarten to the finish behind the Brandenburg Gate, providing perfect conditions for this special kick-off to Berlin’s spring running weekend.

Historical significance of the mile and notable participants

The mile is considered one of the most traditional distances in athletics. In 1954, Roger Bannister made history by being the first person to break the four-minute barrier – a moment that continues to define the “dream mile” to this day. While Berlin’s pace wasn’t quite that fast, the special appeal of this distance was clearly felt. Well-known faces such as Felix Kroos and Florian Neuschwander were at the starting line. However, the focus was on the many different participants: from ambitious runners to recreational athletes experiencing competitive racing for the first time.

Finish line, medals, and positive impressions

Many used the mile as a short, intense warm-up for tomorrow’s GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON, while others took the opportunity to test themselves over the compact distance. As a result, impressions at the finish line were just as varied – from fast times to personal milestones. At the finish behind the Brandenburg Gate, medals awaited alongside countless joyful faces. The combination of sporting challenge and low-threshold entry made the debut of the Garmin BERLIN MILE at GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON a successful start – with potential for the years to come. As one participant put it so nicely: “Running through the Brandenburg Gate was simply amazing, and at the Garmin Cheering Point, I gave it my all! And there were spectators everywhere – I’ll definitely be back next year.”
